Improving Anatomy Tutorial by TamberElla Improving Anatomy Tutorial by TamberElla
I cannot stress enough how important it is to understand real body structure, posture, and anatomy! It's seriously a huge help and the best way to take your art to the next level :)
Never forget to practice by referencing from photos as often as you can! Do /not/ reference from other artists work if you're trying to practice realism or you'll end up copying their mistakes!

So here's a guide for helping you improve your anatomy!

It was hilariously fun making that base sketch riddled with as many errors as possible xD

I must note- Do NOT reference from the skeleton or final sketch in this tutorial!

They were both really quickly drawn! (And DEFINITELY don't ref from the sketch riddled with errors! XD)
Instead, look at these awesome anatomy images or find your own:

Anatomy shouldn't count if you're doing a far more cartoon style right? People always tell me how my anatomy sucks and my cats don't look like cats at all, but that's only because I prefer a (actually very common) cartoon-ish style. But I will most defiantly use this for help! I noticed the shoulder-line up and began to think about how I line up my shoulders.. and well....
Thank-you for posting all the tutorials! They're a great help!

cartoons are based on real life creatures. Anatomy does count.

When you know anatomy cartoons become easier. Trust me. I started out with cartoony animals and people and once I started reasurching anatomy and getting the proper proportions my cartoons became better and it became easier. However, I liked more realistic characters more. :)

After reading this, I feel so stupid. It should be common sense to make everything the same size. XD

This guide was very helpful for me - even though it'll take more time to finish a drawing with this. But it's all worth it in the end, ain't it? :D

This is awesome! I love how this isn't about "the right way to draw a cat", but a great way to improve. It's much more helpful than just a simple, "yeah, this is what this looks like, and this is what it looks like when it's wrong, blah, blah," and can be applied to any subject. Thanks!

Nice job on this, I think you did a good job of showing some of the most common mistakes.

Drawing the skeleton is so useful. I do not claim to be very good a keeping my anatomy realistic, however I have found that making match-stick bone structure with a skull is the best way to keep everything accurate.

Great tutorial!
I noticed now more and more manga artists are learning from the easy-up. It's way easier and saves you a bunch of time to learn the real anatomy, than it is to forever dispute over your drawings in my opinion!
Some artist's I look up to even still use messy, basic-shape bases to make their drawings perfect.

PSSH I'M NOT ONE TO TALK THOUGH, SONIC STYLE IS RIDICULOUSLY OUT OF ANATOMY I'M STARTING TO LOOSE BOTH STYLES. D:
