The Temple by TamberElla The Temple by TamberElla
Commission for Sh1tlandpony.
I had a lot of fun with this one! The commissioner asked for me to take screenshots along the way, so I figured I may as well make a small tutorial! It's fairly straightforward, just a lot of layers haha, go here if you want to take a look: fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/f/201…

the picture and tutorial are wonderful! I would love to know how you get such straight even lines. I can never seem to achieve a smooth line or lineart for that matter (why I never use them CX) I also would love to figure out that grid idea, since perspective is so darn hard on a digital screen o.o

I use the trick where you click at the two end points of where you want a line while holding shift on the brush tool and a line appears in between :)

Simply beautiful. The lighting is especially gorgeous, and the colors are working with it wonderfully.

If I was to critique one detail though, the water pools look a little odd. Too mirror smooth to be real. With the water running down the side of the building and into the pool like that, the surface would be full of ripples and splashes, unless the liquid is suposed to be something magical that need not follow the laws of physics rather than plain water.
What's more, the edge where the stone meets the water doesn't look quite right. It looks kinda like someone cut a hole into the picture and the reflection in the water is showing through. I think it would help if there was some hint of the tank's edge showing near the water.

My thought process was that since the water is hitting the brick and not the pools themselves, most of the splashing is being absorbed there, I might add some more of a ripple effect going out though since the i think it may actually add to the composition to have more going on at the mid level (the far pool). This whole thing needs more touch ups here and there, especially the building edges/pool edges, but I probably won't get around to it for a while a haha.

If you're not sure how water would normally behave, imagine it this way: You have a sink full of water, and you're holding a full glass of water over it. Then you upend the glass, and what happens? Water splashes everywhere. As the water in your painting falls, it hits the thin layer of water that's already formed on the brick, pushing it aside with great speed. And with more water coming down in a steady stream, there will be drops of water flying several feet in every direction constantly. So realistically, those pools should be completely covered with splashes and ripples.
